The methodology of collection, GPS inclusion, and photo authentication.
A goodly number of paint chips were collected, which due to rusting, blistered and peeled off; falling onto various parts of the bridge structure and walkway. Also collected were a few wooden splinters from the wooden planks that make up part of the walking path. Upon collecting them, close up photos were taken of same. Now we also took their GPS Longitude and Latitude coordinates for the record of where they were found. Probably at some point in time you've heard the expression: "If you believe that, then I have a piece of the Brooklyn Bridge that I'll sell you." OK so now we do have many pieces of the Brooklyn Bridge for sale. In addition, they all have an individual GPS Latitude and Longitude address and the collector can go to that spot on the bridge to see where their part of the Brooklyn Bridge is. An affidavit will be supplied stating that they were found on the bridge on 3 July and 4 July and other dates in 2009 with photos and GPS coordinates of their exact location on the bridge. No chips or other items are ever forced off of the bridge structure, only the fallen away pieces are secured for further use. Our policy is not to interfere in any way with the intrinsic aging of the bridge; this includes any and all forced attempts used in the procurement of same.

Serious note: It's the oldest suspension bridge still being used in the United States, and it is considered "structurally deficient" under the federal rating system. Officials don't fear a collapse of the Brooklyn Bridge–the main span appears to be sound–but some of the approaches to the structure have been marred by rusting steel and deteriorating road decks for many years. Repairs aren't due to start until 2010. If the country wants to signal that it's serious about infrastructure, it has to take care of its national icons.

Some recent photos of the Bridge oxidation areas.
Below are some of the regions of the bridge where said chip collection took place. It is apparent that the bridge is rusting in many areas quite visible to the general public. It is our hope that this will be rectified in near future to preserve the beauty and integrity of this magnificent suspension structure.
